Mission

What is the mission of Skilled Volunteers for Israel (SVFI)?

The mission of Skilled Volunteers for Israel is to connect the wisdom and experience of Jewish retirees with societal needs in Israel.

We accomplish our mission through our flagship program, English B'Yachad, serving young adults in Israel and older adults in the Diaspora.

For Young Adults - Opportunity

We empower young adults from Israel’s less-advantaged communities to achieve their dreams of economic success through improved English.

English B’Yachad levels the playing field for job opportunities.

Israel’s most vulnerable populations typically earn less than the average citizen. Ethiopian households earn 40% less than the average Israeli household.

Jobs requiring English tend to offer higher salaries. The differentiating factor for candidates with otherwise equivalent skills is English fluency. That’s why our English tutoring and professional guidance, coupled with our partners' employment training, is key to our students' success.

Your support changes lives.

Empower young Israeli adults to achieve their dreams of economic success through improved English. Play a key role in growing the next generation of Israeli leaders, while enhancing the lives of retired seniors in the Disapora...and more.

For Older Adults

We engage the passion, expertise and time of the most underutilized Jewish volunteer group—retired professionals—in meaningful mentoring opportunities.

We provide a sense of purpose and a connection to Israel.

While baby boomers represent 35% of the American Jewish population, there are few organized volunteer roles leveraging their professional expertise and Jewish passion.

By limiting older adults’ ability to contribute to the Jewish community and the causes they care about, we forego a lasting legacy for future generations. Meaningful volunteering allows seniors to remain productive and challenged.
