Tech-Career
Tech-Career is an Israeli non-governmental organization (NGO) that enlists young Ethiopian Israelis in professional courses with the end goal of well-paid employment in Israel’s high-tech industry. Tech-Career strives to break the employment barriers confronting Ethiopian Israelis. Graduates acquire the technology skills that enable them to attain high-level employment, manage professional careers, and climb the socio-economic ladder.
ReStart
ReStart is a nonprofit supporting wounded Israel Defense Forces soldiers as they rebuild their lives after physical or emotional trauma from service or reserve duty. Founded in 2014, ReStart brings together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and injured veterans to apply the creativity of Israel’s “Start-Up Nation” to recovery. The organization provides immediate support to injured soldiers and their families in hospitals across Israel, while developing practical and technological solutions to aid rehabilitation. By strengthening physical, emotional, and social well-being, ReStart helps veterans regain independence and transition into meaningful careers, supporting their return to family, community, and civilian life.
Empowering Ethiopian Women
Empowering Ethiopian Women (EEW) is a fairly new Israeli NGO. It was established in 2020 by, and for, Ethiopian Israeli women. The organization provides support and encouragement in urgently critical areas such as higher education, professional training, business development, and core women's issues. EEW grew out of a grassroots social media community platform of more than 16,000 members created in 2017 with the aim of empowering Ethiopian Israeli women.
Ono College
Ono Academic College has been advancing higher education in Israel since 1995, with campuses in Kiryat Ono, Jerusalem, and Haifa. Offering undergraduate and graduate programs, Ono is committed to academic excellence and social impact. Its multicultural curriculum reflects Israel’s diverse society, with strong support for underserved populations. Graduates play key roles across Israel’s economy and public life. With a focus on practical skills and inclusion, Ono prepares students for career success—reflected in strong employment outcomes, including among Ethiopian-Israeli and ultra-Orthodox graduates.
InTech
The InTech Program, initiated in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor in July 2022, aims to ensure that every young Ethiopian Israeli adult has the opportunity to integrate into Israel's high-tech industry if she or he wishes to do so. Over cycles of three months, participants receive hands-on guidance in various tech roles, engage in mini-projects, interact with tech professionals, and go on on-site tours, allowing them to assess their suitability to the wide variety of roles available in the high-tech world. The program includes job counseling and information on academic and non-academic training paths. Graduates select a study path tailored to their needs and receive ongoing support until they secure their first high-tech job.
LaMerhak
The Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs and JDC-Israel-TEVET developed the Lamerhak (“far and away”) program of employment promotion for Israelis of Ethiopian descent. The program’s objective is to help members of the community to be employed in jobs that take full advantage of their educational attainments and skills. The program started in 2014. Since 2019, it is being implemented by the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs.
